Whatipu Road

4WD track in the Auckland region

Whatipu Road is an easy Waitakere Ranges gravel road from Huia to Whatipu beach, winding through native bush to wild West Coast black sand.

(1)

At the southern end of the Waitakere Ranges, this well-formed gravel road runs from Huia out to the Whatipu beach carpark. It winds through native bush with some good views opening up along the way.

The setting is the real drawcard. Lush forest, a rugged West Coast feel, and several walking tracks branch off the road that are worth a stop. Whatipu itself is known for its black sand and wild coastal scenery at the end of the drive.

An easy getaway into the bush for a relaxed day out close to town. Take your time, pull over for the views, and stretch your legs on the trails.
