Following the Whangaehu River from near the coast up toward the Central Plateau, this gravel drive winds through rolling hill country with the water alongside for much of the way. It's a scenic run that gains elevation steadily, so the country keeps changing as you climb.

The driving is easygoing rather than technical, a relaxed gravel road you can take at your own pace. Good one for soaking up the river views without working too hard at the wheel.

If you're after a longer day, Turakina Valley Road links up on the way back, so you can join the two valleys into a loop.
