A soft beach run heading north from Waitarere to the Manawatu River. Open coastline the whole way, with sweeping views along the dunes and out across the Tasman. Plenty of room to pull over and take it in.

The sand gets softer the further north you go and the beach narrows in spots, so keep a close eye on the tides before you commit. Drop your tyre pressures and stay aware of the incoming water, because that firm strip can shrink quickly. Good run if you're comfortable with soft-sand driving and tidal beaches.

It's a nice spot to hang out for the day, and anglers can have a go along the beach or up near the river mouth.
