4WD track in the Manawatu-Whanganui region
Waiinu Beach is a black sand beach run in Manawatu-Whanganui, an easy coastal drive with rocky heads, ocean views and tides to watch.
One of the black sand beaches along the coast, this is a reasonably simple run up and down the shore. The dark volcanic sand and open ocean make for a good drive, with rocky heads breaking up the shoreline.
Keep a close eye on the tides. Those heads can trap you if you get caught out at the wrong time, so plan your trip around the tide tables. The sand gets softer as you near the river at the northern end, so take a bit of care through that stretch.
