Urchin Lookout

4WD track in the Waikato region

Urchin Lookout is a short, easy gravel climb up through native bush in the Waikato, a good way to break up a north-south run.

(2)

A short climb up to a lookout above the Urchin Campsite, mostly on gravel with a few hairpins as it winds up the hill. Nothing demanding, just an easy run that breaks up a longer north-south trip.

The native bush along the way is the best part, lining the climb the whole way up. Don't go expecting a big panorama at the top though, the trees largely block the view from the lookout itself.

Worth keeping an eye out for the swing bridge around the corner, which is a good quick detour if you've got the time.
