4WD track in the Auckland region
Te Arai Point is an easy coastal gravel drive south of Mangawhai Heads in Auckland, offering sea views and a pleasant beach stop rather than a true off-road challenge.
Te Arai Point is a scenic beach roughly five minutes south of Mangawhai Heads, on the Auckland region's east coast. The area is laced with gravel roads and there are several ways to reach the point, with this being one of the longer routes.
The drive follows the coast on gravel road, with a paved section through the middle, so it's more of a relaxed coastal tour than a genuine off-road challenge. The terrain is easy and well suited to most vehicles, with rewarding sea views along the way.
It makes a great scenic detour if you're taking the coastal route north towards Whangarei, and the beach itself is a pleasant spot to stop and stretch your legs.
