Tauwhareniaku River Access

4WD track in the Wellington region

Tauwhareniaku River Access is an easy Wellington gravel side track down to the river, good for a picnic or a quiet stop, with an optional crossing further down.

(2)

A short side track that drops you down onto the Tauwhareniaku River, this is a relaxed little spot for a picnic, a quiet stop by the water or a couple of cold ones with mates.

There are two entrances and neither is difficult. One way is a simple hop straight down onto the river. The other squeezes through the bush with a bit of branch rash and a decent drop into the river, so take care if you choose that line. If you'd rather stay scratch-free, turn left as you climb up onto the stop bank and cruise down to the river instead. The track itself is gravel and nothing challenging.

You can push further down the river if you like, where there's an optional crossing for anyone keen to have a go. Check the depth before committing, as it can run deep. All up, an easy little spot to enjoy.
