Shipwreck Bay

4WD track in the Northland region

(1)

A short coastal run near Shipwreck Bay at the western end of Ninety Mile Beach in the far north of Northland. The route hugs a beautiful stretch of coastline, with open ocean views and a rugged shoreline. This is a tidal track, so it can only be accessed at low tide — at high tide the rocks are submerged, so plan your timing carefully around the tides. The driving itself isn't challenging, but there are some sharp rocks to climb over along the way, so take it slow and easy to look after your tyres and undercarriage. A scenic, relaxed outing that rewards careful timing and a gentle pace. Best suited to those happy to pick a careful line over rocky ground rather than anyone chasing technical terrain.
