4WD track in the Wellington region
Riversdale Beach (North) is an easy, scenic Wairarapa coast beach run with open ocean views, best driven at lower tides on firm sand.
A short beach run heading north from the access point at Riversdale Beach, on the Wairarapa coast in the Wellington region. The route takes you along the sand with open ocean views, sharing the beach with walkers, anglers and other users, so keep your speed down and watch for people.
Be mindful of the stream crossing along the way, as conditions there change with the tides and weather. Note that driving south from the entry is not permitted: vehicles are kept off the main stretch of beach in front of the houses, so stick to the northern run.
This is an easy, scenic outing rather than a technical challenge, best enjoyed at lower tides when there's firm sand to travel on. As with any beach driving, keep an eye on the tide and leave yourself room to turn back.
