A short, easy run out to the Otaki River mouth on the Wellington coast. The track itself is simple gravel, with a few bumps but nothing demanding, making it a relaxed drive for a spot of fishing or lunch by the water. Stay on the formed track, as the areas inland are all private land. The northern area beyond the concrete blocks is Maori land that's looked after by local people, so it's best not to head past that point unless you're well known to them. The whole stretch of beach from the start is a favourite surfcasting spot, with snapper, kahawai and gurnard all on offer. It's a beautiful, open coastal environment where the river meets the sea. Please respect the place and take your rubbish home with you.
