4WD track in the Wellington region
Range Road runs through one of the windiest spots in the North Island, a setting put to good use by the wind turbines that line the ridge. The route itself is a straightforward gravel drive, easy going for most vehicles, with the real reward being the scenery. As you climb the range you're treated to sweeping ridgetop views, and the road then drops down into the valley below with stunning outlooks the whole way. The exposed, windswept high country gives the area a distinctive character, and the turbines overhead make for a memorable backdrop. A relaxed Wellington-region drive best enjoyed for the views.
