This high country sits in one of the windiest spots in the North Island, which is exactly why the wind turbines line the ridge above. Exposed and windswept up top, with the turbines turning overhead, it has a character all its own.

The driving is easy. A gravel road that most vehicles will handle without trouble, so no technical challenge to think about. As you climb the range the views open right out along the ridgetop, then the road drops away into the valley below with good outlooks the whole way down.
