(5)

A run right up to the top of the Coromandel Peninsula, this one takes in some of the best coastal views around. Sweeping sea views the whole way, and plenty of beaches to pull off at for a fish or a swim.

It's an easy gravel road. So accessible, in fact, that folks have driven it in everything from 4WDs to a Toyota MR2. A lot of people rate it as one of the best drives in the area, and it's hard to argue.

At the top there are DOC campgrounds set right by the beach, with basic toilets and plenty of room to spread out. Good spot to pitch up for the night after the drive in.

Worth noting no dogs are allowed anywhere in the area, whether you're camping or not.
