(2)

Tucked into the far north of the Coromandel Peninsula, Port Charles Road is an easy cruise along a winding, well-maintained gravel road leading up to Port Charles. The scenery is beautiful, with the route winding through classic Coromandel country, and it largely serves as the access road for those continuing on to Stony Bay.

The driving itself is straightforward and suits most vehicles, making it more about the journey and the destination than any technical challenge. The gravel surface holds up well considering it mostly sees tourist traffic, so expect a relaxed, scenic run rather than a serious 4WD challenge.

At Stony Bay you'll find the DOC campsite, a popular spot to base up and explore this remote corner of the peninsula. A great option for anyone heading to the coast and wanting an easy, scenic drive.
