Porangahau to Blackhead

4WD track in the Hawke's Bay region

This gravel road runs along the Hawke's Bay coast between Porangahau and Blackhead, in the south of the region. It first follows the coastline before turning inland through farmland and valley country. The route is best thought of as a connector, linking up a longer coastal trip rather than a destination in its own right. Expect open rural scenery, rolling hill-country pasture, and glimpses of the rugged southern Hawke's Bay coast. As a formed gravel road it suits most touring 4WDs and makes an easy, scenic link between the two coastal points.
