A formed gravel road links Porangahau and Blackhead down the southern coast, running along the shoreline before turning inland through farmland and valley country.

Open rural scenery the whole way, rolling hill-country pasture, and the odd glimpse of the rugged coast to the south. Being a formed gravel road it suits most touring 4WDs and makes for an easy, scenic drive between the two coastal points.

Think of it as a connector rather than a destination in its own right. Good for stitching together a longer coastal trip through this quiet corner of the country.
