Pine Valley

4WD track in the Tasman region

(3)

Pine Valley Road, in the Tasman region, begins as a simple gravel road before heading further up into the valley. It's an easy, gentle drive that most rate as straightforward, with little bush rash to worry about. Near the end of the track there's a small river crossing, after which you'll reach a spacious, attractive DOC campsite that gets plenty of praise from visitors. DOC recommend a 4WD to access the campsite beyond the road end. The river crossing is the one feature to plan around: it's usually no trouble, but can become high and unsafe after heavy rain, so keep an eye on the weather. If the river is too high to cross, you can simply park and walk up to the campsite. All up it's a relaxed, scenic run into the valley with a great reward at the end.
