A gravel route winding through the hills down in Southland's Deep South, handy if you'd rather stay off the highway and take in some quieter country between stops.

The western end is where it's at, with the views opening right up as you drop down towards the bay. The rest is easy gravel through rolling hill country, nothing technical, just a relaxed scenic drive.

Good one when you want to stretch out the trip and have a proper look at the landscape rather than just getting from A to B.
