Tucked away deep in the King Country, the Ngaroma Block is a proper hard 4WD area run by the King Country 4WD club. It's a place to go and test your skills rather than a casual day out. The access road is gravel, but once you're past that things go from wild to wilder pretty quickly.

This isn't one for a typical overland vehicle. If you've got a dedicated bush truck or something a bit tougher, though, it can be great fun. Damage is very likely on some of the tracks, so come prepared. Once you're into the forest you can largely follow your nose around the various tracks scattered through the block.

As well as the technical 4WDing, the block doubles as a spot to camp, so you can make a weekend of it. The land is free to use but cared for by the club, so leave a donation on your way in to help keep it open.
