Mt Moka

4WD track in the Otago region

Mt Moka is a short, seriously steep Hard climb off Thompsons Gorge in Central Otago, with spectacular views from a high, exposed top.

(1)

A short but seriously steep climb branching off Thompsons Gorge, out near the Bendigo Conservation Area in Central Otago. It's one of the quieter high-country detours up this way, and the views from the top are well worth the quick up-hop.

Graded Hard, it's a steep, punchy little route. The track carries on beyond the summit climb too, so there's more to explore for anyone keen to record the full thing. This is high, exposed country where snow can fall at any time of year, so keep an eye on the weather before heading into these hills.

Bring layers and check conditions. Access runs in through the Bendigo Conservation Area, so it's worth confirming the gate situation before you set out.
