Motu Falls Road sits in the rugged hinterland of the eastern Bay of Plenty, leading out to the falls themselves. It's well worth jumping out of the car for the super short walk down to the bridge, where the falls are spectacular - especially after rain. From the falls the route starts as a straightforward gravel road before conditions gradually deteriorate into a farm track and then into something rougher still. An A/T tyre is a sensible choice, as stretches can carry sharp coarse gravel. It's a cool, scenic drive through remote country. Please respect the road - don't spin your tyres or make a mess of the surface, and leave it in good shape for the next traveller.
