Out of Ashburton you'll find a proper hard little 4WD playground, the sort of place built for testing your vehicle and gear on a genuinely challenging course. The terrain is rated very hard, so come prepared.

Tight bush sections can give vehicles a bit of rash, and the obstacles get a lot easier and safer with a buddy or a group along. It's still a rewarding run solo if you're confident, just know you're working a bit harder for it. The park is open daylight hours only.

All vehicles need to be road legal and have proper recovery points. Stay on the track, don't cut trees, and look after the place. It's a fairly unique thing to have access to, so keep it that way for everyone who follows. Expect to head home with a good smile on your face.
