Manawhare Road loops around the top of Lake Rotoma in the Bay of Plenty, following a narrow gravel road through some stunning forest. It's an easy, well-formed gravel route that rewards you with great forest scenery and lake views along the way. Keep an eye out for a walk down to the lake, too, it's well worth the short hop down to the water. The road is basic but generally in good shape and suits most vehicles taking it steady. For those wanting a bit more, there are side tracks branching off into the forestry, including around the Hamilton Road area (all in Navigator Pro) where a run of tracks continues for a couple of kilometres. These offer a bit more fun and a handy camping spot tucked away off the main road, though they get rougher than the gravel and can hold mud after rain. A relaxed, scenic outing well-liked by those who've driven it.
