One of several access routes down onto Ripiro Beach on the west coast, and among the better ones to drive. You get the classic west coast scenery here, open sand, surf and big skies, with the beach running well in both directions.

The track has a sand base with a river running over it, so AWD or 4WD is the way to go to make the crossing comfortably. Rated around medium, it's a fun run with a bit more character than a plain beach entry.

Once you're on the sand, Mahuta Gap links up with the other Ripiro Beach access points, including the route up towards Baylys Beach, so it can be part of a longer coastal drive. Keep a close eye on the tide when you're planning any beach travel here. Timing is everything for getting around safely.
