A short detour off the main coastal road takes you out to the remote northern tip of the East Cape loop.

You start on seal before it switches to gravel.

Things open up to good views out over the sea near the end, and there's a campsite where the road runs out. Worth a stop for a break, a look at the ocean, or to pitch up for the night before carrying on round the loop.
