4WD track in the Canterbury region
Lake Taylor is an easy inland Canterbury gravel drive with crystal-clear lake water, a swing bridge, and views the whole way, fine for 2WD.
An easy, scenic gravel run into inland Canterbury, with lake and river views pretty much the whole way. The road is well-formed shingle with a few rougher sections, nothing too taxing, and most vehicles will manage it fine, including 2WD. The main thing to know is the corrugation, which can rattle you about a bit depending on how long since it was last graded.
The water around the lake edge runs crystal clear, and there's a swing bridge worth a look. A riverside spot partway along makes a good place to pull over for lunch. The far end runs alongside Lake Sumner, a lovely section in its own right, though there's a gate down that way that can have you turning around.
There's a DOC campsite at Lake Taylor, a handy spot to pitch up for the night if you're staying on. Good for fishing, walking, or just sitting by the water. Worth a day trip or a weekend away.
