The drive to Lake Taylor in inland Canterbury is an easy and scenic journey, suitable for most vehicles including 2WD. The road is well-formed gravel with shingle sections, nothing overly challenging, making it an enjoyable trip for all skill levels. Corrugation is a common feature of the surface, but the route stays straightforward throughout. Expect stunning lake and river views the whole way, with crystal-clear water around the lake edge and a nearby swing bridge worth checking out. There's a riverside spot that makes a great place to stop for lunch. The far end of the route runs alongside Lake Sumner, a beautiful section in its own right. There's a DOC campsite at Lake Taylor, providing a great base for outdoor adventures. Whether you're into fishing, hiking, or simply relaxing by the water, it's an excellent spot for a day trip or weekend escape. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature.
