Kiko Road is an 18km Waikato forestry gravel route into Kaimanawa Forest Park, an easy cruise through logging blocks and native bush with a rougher final stretch.
Kiko Road is an 18km stretch of gravel running deep into the Kaimanawa Forest Park in the Waikato. The route crosses a mix of forestry land and native bush, with the scenery shifting from working logging blocks and skid sites to native forest at the far end.
For roughly 90% of its length it's an easy, leisurely gravel cruise suitable for most vehicles, making it a relaxed roll through the trees. The final stretch gets a tad rougher, with some rutted sections that can be more challenging for smaller-tyred vehicles, though it generally shouldn't cause major issues.
Because much of the road passes through active forestry land, be sure to respect any road closure signs — the road can be shut when logging operations are underway. With replanting ongoing across the blocks, there can be good access to a network of different tracks branching off Kiko, offering plenty to explore at an easy pace.
