Hull Road runs between Kahikatea Flat Rd and Austin Rd, near Waitoki, west of Silverdale in the Auckland region. It's an undeveloped, unmaintained route where locals have tried to stop access in the past, and it's closed over the winter months to avoid disturbing the neighbours (reopening in spring). Though short, it's clay based with some grass sections. In the dry the constant ruts and steep climbs and descents make it an intermediate challenge; in winter it would be for experts only, if not impassable. Entering from either side brings climbs and descents, with a decent climb heading south. From Austin Rd you're immediately met with ruts and an undulating uphill section that varies by at least a vertical metre. Don't let the short length fool you — this is a genuinely tough little track that has caught out vehicles and rewards careful driving. Plan your timing around the seasonal closure and respect the locals' wishes when access is open.
