Hakatere Potts Road

4WD track in the Canterbury region

Hakatere Potts Road is a Canterbury high-country gravel run into braided-river country, with big valley views, lakes and a detour to Mt Sunday.

(1)

Up into the Hakatere Conservation Park this one goes, heading towards the Clyde River down in the valley. Classic braided-river high country, with sweeping mountain and valley views that on a clear day make the trip more than worth it.

Mostly gravel and fine for most vehicles, though some sections get corrugated, so take it steady. There are walks and lakes dotted along the way, including Lake Camp, where there's plenty of open space to pull over and not many bugs to bother you.
