4WD track in the Otago region
Danseys Pass is an easy, scenic Otago gravel road over a 935-metre pass linking the Maniototo and Waitaki Valley, with high-country views and a historic pub.
Danseys Pass is a stunning Otago gravel road that crosses the pass at 935 metres above sea level, linking the Maniototo with the Waitaki Valley. The scenery is beautiful the whole way, winding through open high-country hills, and it's well worth the trip over.
It's an easy, picturesque drive on a generally smooth gravel surface that suits all vehicle types in good conditions. The top can be pretty exposed during the winter or windy months, so it's worth checking the weather if that matters to you, and swirling mist can sometimes limit the views.
A highlight is the historic pub along the way, one of the best old pubs around and a great spot to stop for food and drinks. With sheep musters not uncommon along the road, it's a classic slice of rural Otago.
