Brown Hut Track

4WD track in the Otago region

Brown Hut Track is a remote Otago high-country side route through Oteake Conservation Park's open tussock country, a handy add-on to a longer day.

Brown Hut Track is a side route through the Oteake Conservation Park in Otago's high country. It heads past Brown Hut before looping back to connect with the main routes in the area, making it a handy add-on to a longer day exploring the park.

The track runs through open tussock country typical of these ranges, with the wide, exposed landscape and big skies that draw 4WDers to Oteake. It is a real high-country setting, remote and uncluttered.

As an alpine route it is subject to a seasonal closure, shutting on 30 April and reopening on 26 October, so plan trips for the warmer months. Come prepared for remote backcountry travel and changeable mountain weather.
