The Branch River route lies in the Marlborough high country and starts with a splash across the Leatham River, which can run high and may not be passable after big rains. The crossing is the key thing to assess before setting out, so check it carefully and pick your line.

Once across, the track follows the hills out towards Greigs Hut, climbing through forest with some awesome views opening up along the way. It's not overly hard, making for an enjoyable cruise rather than a technical challenge.
