A short, easy run down to the shores of Lake Tekapo in Canterbury's Mackenzie Country. There's nothing tricky about this route, but it rewards you with amazing views out over the lake. DOC recommend a 4WD for the trip down to the water's edge; in reality it's probably not strictly required, but it's worth keeping in mind, especially if conditions have softened the track. It's a quick hop rather than a full day out, making it a handy detour if you're exploring the wider Tekapo area and want to get close to the lake. Take in the scenery, then head back out the way you came.
