Blackhead Beach

4WD track in the Hawke's Bay region

Blackhead Beach is a remote southern Hawke's Bay coastal run on firm sand and gravel between Blackhead and Aramoana, with tides to watch.

(2)

Out on the rugged southern Hawke's Bay coast, this is a beach run between Blackhead and Aramoana, backed by cliffs with open sea views and a proper sense of remoteness.

It's firm sand and gravel rather than a formed track, so it's all about reading the conditions as you go. Keep a close eye on the tides, as water can wash in high along here. Time your run for a falling or low tide so you don't get caught out.

Through access can be cut by slips along the coast, so check the latest status before you count on driving the full length. Even when the drive is shut, the beach itself is well worth a look, whether you come to explore on foot or just take in the coastline.
