A gravel road runs up alongside the Aorere River through thick native bush in the far northwest of Golden Bay. The forest is the real drawcard, lush green right down to the water, with the river keeping you company for most of the way.

Easy, cruisy going drive. It winds gently through the bush.

The road eventually brings you to the start of the Heaphy Track, one of the Great Walks, so you'll likely share it with trampers and tourists heading to and from the trailhead.
