Anawhata Road

4WD track in the Auckland region

Anawhata Road is a narrow gravel run through Waitakere Ranges bush to a rugged west coast beach, scenic and 2WD-safe with tight corners.

(1)

Out on Auckland's wild west coast in the Waitakere Ranges, this narrow 10 km gravel road winds down through native bush to the coast, passing a few remote beach houses on the way. It finishes at the Anawhata car park, where you get big views over the beach and rugged coastline.

The road is well maintained and generally fine for 2WDs, but it's slow going. The narrow width, tight corners and a handful of driveways keep your speed down, so it's more of a relaxed scenic drive than anything technical.

There's access to a number of walking tracks along the way, so it's worth pulling over and exploring on foot. All up, a pleasant way to reach one of the quieter west coast beaches.
