A short, sandy beach run sits north of Tolaga Bay on the East Coast, with open sea views and an easygoing feel. Anaura Bay is more a relaxed introduction to beach driving than any sort of technical challenge.

The bay's a popular swimming and holiday spot, so you'll often be sharing the sand with walkers, families and other visitors. Keep an eye out and give them plenty of room.

As with any beach drive, watch the tides and the soft sand near the high-water mark, and stay clear of the dunes and any nesting birds.
