Wooded Gully Campsite

Campsite in the Canterbury region

Wooded Gully Campsite is a spacious stream-side spot in Mount Thomas Forest, Canterbury, with plains views, clean facilities and a pretty walking track alongside.

(1)

Sitting beside a stream below the tracks up to Mt Thomas, this is a spacious, well-liked spot in the Mount Thomas Forest Conservation Area. There's a large open area with views out over the Canterbury plains, plus more sheltered sites tucked down by the water.

The constant sound of running water makes for a soothing, if occasionally noisy, night. Facilities are clean and tidy, with flush toilets and tap water (untreated, so boil before use), and the site is wheelchair accessible with assistance. Tent and non-powered sites are on offer, and it's dog friendly.

The hiking track beside the camp is a pretty walk if you fancy stretching the legs, and the site works well as a stopover before or after a Lees Valley trip. The riverside spots are the pick of the bunch, so it pays to arrive early to claim one. Pack some bug repellent while you're at it.
