Campsite in the Marlborough region
Whites Bay Campsite is a beachside Marlborough spot with non-powered sites, a surf beach and a glow worm wall a short walk away, about 25 minutes from the ferry.
Right beside the surf beach at Pukatea/Whites Bay, this beachside spot has an easygoing seaside feel and plenty of room. There are multiple non-powered sites to park up or pitch a tent, with flush toilets, cold showers and tap water (untreated, so boil it first).
Good setting for making a day of it, with walking, fishing, swimming and kayaking all on offer, and a surf lifesaving club right on the beach. You can sometimes find fresh mussels on the rocks. A 30-second walk brings you to a big glow worm wall, well worth a look after dark.
Handy overnight stop if you're heading to or from Picton, sitting about 25 minutes from the ferry. Worth knowing the gates are locked from 9pm to 7am for camper safety, so plan your comings and goings, and reception can be patchy.
