Wentworth Valley Campground

Campsite in the Coromandel region

Wentworth Valley Campground is a peaceful bush campsite in Coromandel Forest Park with secluded sites, river swimming and walks to a waterfall and mining tunnels.

(9)

Set deep in the bush of Coromandel Forest Park, Wentworth Valley Campground occupies the site of what was once a large gold mining settlement, complete with houses, shops and schools. Today it's a peaceful, well-liked campsite surrounded by native bush, with plenty of flat, shaded ground and private, secluded spots tucked into bush 'elbows' away from other campers. There's room to spread out, making it well suited to rooftop tents and even parking a boat. Dogs are allowed.

Facilities include toilets, a kitchen, BBQs and drinking water, plus hot showers. A river runs alongside camp with swimming holes nearby, and walking tracks lead to a lovely waterfall and old mining tunnels. Mobile signal is patchy and comes and goes.

On arrival, stop at the office to register; if it's unattended, be prepared with cash to self-register. Bookings are required for Auckland Anniversary, Waitangi Weekend, Beach Hop and Easter; outside these times you can rock up.
