Waipakihi Campsite

Campsite in the Waikato region

(6)

Tucked beside the Waipakihi River off the Desert Road in the Waikato, this small bush campsite is a genuine favourite among those who make the effort to reach it. The setting is the real drawcard - a peaceful riverside spot ringed by bush, where you can pitch right next to the water. There are no facilities here, so come fully self-sufficient and prepared to pack everything out. Access is the catch: the entrance off Waipakihi Road is tough going and a 4x4 is essential, with a rough, challenging track in. Because of this, it's a smart idea to travel with mates in more than one vehicle rather than tackling it solo. Those who get there consistently rate it as one of the best spots around. Please respect this place - it's pretty amazing, and worth keeping that way for the next crew.
