Campsite in the Coromandel region
Waikawau Bay Campsite is a spacious beachside DOC-style site on the northern Coromandel coast, with great beach fishing and room to shelter from the wind.
A wide sweep of white sand backs onto this spacious DOC-style site on the northern Coromandel coast. There's plenty of room to spread out and find a spot sheltered from the wind, which makes it an easy one for families.
The camp splits into front and back sections. The back sits further from the beach and stays a bit quieter, while the front is just a short walk to the sand and tends to fill up over summer. The bay itself is unspoilt and good for a swim, a paddle in the kayak or a fish. People do well off the beach here, with snapper and kahawai the usual catch. Waikawau Beach and Little Bay are both close by and worth a look.
You've got non-powered and powered sites, a shop, clean non-flush toilets and showers, though the showers are cold, not hot. Tap water is untreated, so boil it before use. The site is wheelchair accessible with assistance.
