Waikawau Bay Campsite

Campsite in the Coromandel region

(3)

On the northern Coromandel coast, Waikawau Bay Campsite sits beside a stunning stretch of white sand beach. It's a spacious, family-friendly DOC-style site with plenty of room to spread out and find a sheltered spot from the wind. The campsite has both front and back sections, with the back area sitting a little further from the beach and offering a quieter feel, while the front is just a short walk to the sand. The untouched bay is a fabulous place to relax, fish, swim, kayak or explore, and visitors report excellent beach fishing with snapper and kahawai on offer. Nearby Waikawau Beach and Little Bay are both close and well worth a visit. Facilities include non-powered and powered sites, a shop, clean non-flush toilets, and showers — note these are cold, not hot. Tap water is untreated, so boil before use. The site is wheelchair accessible with assistance.
