Twelve Mile Delta Campsite sits on a river delta where Twelve-Mile Creek meets the shores of Lake Wakatipu, a short drive from Queenstown in Otago. The setting is spectacular, with regenerating forest surrounding the spacious non-powered tent sites and lake and mountain views close at hand. It makes a great base for getting out of busy Queenstown while staying close enough to explore the area, including trips toward Glenorchy and further north. There's plenty to do here: boating with a launch on site, swimming and fishing in the lake, plus walking and mountain biking tracks nearby. Facilities include non-flush toilets and an untreated tap water supply (boil before use), and the site is wheelchair accessible with assistance. One practical tip from campers: the ground is very stony and rocky rather than grassy, so bring thick, sturdy tent pegs, as the standard pegs supplied with off-the-shelf tents won't hold.
