Right at the northern tip of the Coromandel Peninsula, this five-hectare campsite sits beside the coast at the end of an easy, scenic drive. Plenty of room to spread out, and the sea views are a big part of the draw. Good fishing and diving close by, and you can walk or mountain bike to Fletcher Bay along the Coromandel Coastal Walkway.

Facilities are non-powered tent sites, cold showers, non-flush toilets and a tap for water (untreated, so boil it before you drink). Campers regularly say the toilets and showers are clean and well looked after.

One thing worth planning for is the wind. The area cops occasional gale-force southwesterly gusts, known locally as the 'Moehau dump', strong enough that people have packed up awnings in the middle of the night. Pitch securely, and if it really blows you may want a more sheltered bay to ride it out. A relaxed coastal base well worth the trip north.
