Stony Bay Campsite

Campsite in the Coromandel region

(4)

Tucked away at the northern tip of the Coromandel Peninsula, Stony Bay is a spacious (5 ha) campsite right beside the coast, reached at the end of an easy and scenic drive. It's a consistently popular spot, prized for its stunning coastal views and ready access to good fishing and diving close by. From here you can walk or mountain bike to Fletcher Bay along the Coromandel Coastal Walkway. Facilities include non-powered tent sites, cold showers, non-flush toilets and a tap water supply (untreated, so boil before use); campers regularly note the toilets and showers are clean and well maintained. One thing worth planning for: the area is exposed to occasional gale-force southwesterly gusts, known locally as the 'Moehau dump', which can make tents and awnings hard to manage, so pitch securely. A beautiful, relaxed coastal base well worth the trip north.
