Out in the old gold-mining country near St Bathans township, this is a basic spot with plenty of room to spread out. It's remote and peaceful, though there's little in the way of shelter, so it can really catch the wind on exposed days.

Facilities are simple. Non-flush toilets and tap water that isn't treated, so boil it before you drink. Sites are non-powered and set up for tents.

Handy base for a look round the well-preserved St Bathans township, with its old buildings and the Blue Lake, or for riding a bit of the Otago Central Rail Trail. Good one if you're after a quiet, scenic stay steeped in pioneer history and don't mind roughing it a little.
