Tucked away near Ruatiti in the Manawatu-Whanganui region, this peaceful domain is a hidden gem well off the beaten track. It offers a selection of camping areas, either under the open skies or beneath a canopy of giant beech, manuka, kanuka and mingimingi trees that provide privacy and shelter from the sun. The setting is wonderfully quiet, with plenty of grassy space to park up and spots right down by the rocky river, where some sites have fire pits. Facilities are basic but well kept, including a BBQ, picnic facilities and back-country toilets that campers consistently praise for their cleanliness. There is no booking system for the Domain and camp sites are available on a first in, first served basis. There is currently no cost for the use of the Domain or its facilities. A relaxed, scenic riverside escape that rewards those willing to make the trip out.
