Campsite in the Northland region
Tucked into the eastern edge of the Puketi and Omahuta Forests in Northland, this peaceful campsite sits close to majestic kauri trees and makes an ideal base for day or overnight tramps. There's a good network of walking tracks right on the doorstep, so it's a popular spot with bushwalkers. Keep an eye and ear out for kiwi and short-tailed bats after dark. The site has around 20 non-powered tent sites, with cold showers, composting (non-flush) toilets, fire pits for campfires outside the prohibited fire season, BBQ facilities and untreated tap water (boil before use). It's wheelchair accessible with assistance. There's no cellphone reception here, so it pays to book ahead online before you arrive. A genuinely tranquil forest base for exploring this beautiful kauri country.
