Campsite in the Canterbury region
Pioneer Park Campsite in Canterbury is a quiet, bush-clad spot with short walks, campfires and dogs allowed, and historic Burkes Cottage nearby.
Quiet spot tucked in among native bush, with plenty of birdsong to wake up to. Non-powered tent sites, non-flush toilets, and a tap for water (not treated, so boil it first). Fires are allowed too, except when there's a ban on.
There are some good short walks right around the camp, and you can wander over to historic Burkes Cottage. Dogs are welcome, and folks reckon it holds up well even through winter.
One thing to keep in mind: don't pitch up in the flood zone if heavy rain or thunderstorms are on the way.
