Mangawhero Campsite

Campsite in the Manawatu-Whanganui region

Mangawhero Campsite is a quiet forest spot on the flanks of Mount Ruapehu in Tongariro National Park, with flat tent sites and great stargazing.

(2)

On the flanks of Mount Ruapehu, tucked into the forest, this is a quiet little spot under the hills. Good base for poking around the park and the nearby walks.

Non-powered tent sites with flat ground that pitches well, plus a clean long-drop toilet. There's a tap for water, but it's untreated, so boil it before drinking.

Not much light out this way, so on a clear night the stars are worth staying up for. The forest setting is peaceful and works well for a couple of nights while you take in the walks and scenery around the park.
