Mangawhero Campsite is a quiet forest tent site below Mount Ruapehu in Tongariro National Park, with flat ground, long-drops and superb stargazing.

(2)

Tucked into the forest on the flanks of Mount Ruapehu, Mangawhero Campsite sits within Tongariro National Park in the Manawatu-Whanganui region. It's a quiet little spot under the hills that makes a handy base for exploring the park and tackling nearby walks.

The campsite offers non-powered tent sites with flat ground that pitches well, plus non-flush long-drop toilets. There's a tap for water, though it's untreated, so boil it before drinking.

With minimal light pollution out here, the stargazing is excellent on a clear night. The forest setting is peaceful and well suited to a multi-night stay while you take in the surrounding scenery and trails of Tongariro National Park.
