Macetown Campsite

Campsite in the Otago region

(5)

Macetown Campsite sits at the end of a remote 4WD road in the Queenstown/Wakatipu area, roughly 15 km from Arrowtown within the Macetown Historic Reserve. Getting here is part of the adventure: the track follows the Arrow River and crosses it numerous times, so a snorkel is well worth considering before you set out. This is a basic, non-powered site for tents, with long-drop toilets and water drawn from the stream. It's a popular spot to get away from it all, rewarded with good views and plenty of walks to explore around the old goldmining settlement once you've made camp. There are no other facilities, so come well prepared and self-sufficient. As a historic reserve, it's a place to tread lightly — pack out all your rubbish and respect the track and surrounds so others can enjoy it too.
