At the end of a remote 4WD road out past Arrowtown, this old goldmining settlement sits within the Macetown Historic Reserve, roughly 15 km up the valley. Getting there is half the fun. The track follows the Arrow River and crosses it plenty of times, so a snorkel is worth thinking about before you head off.

It's a basic, non-powered site for tents, with long-drop toilets and water drawn from the stream. No other facilities, so come well prepared and self-sufficient. People come here to get away from it all, and there's good views along with plenty of walks to explore around the old settlement once you've pitched up.

As a historic reserve, it pays to tread lightly. Pack out all your rubbish and respect the track and surrounds so the next lot can enjoy it too.
