Macetown Campsite

Campsite in the Otago region

Macetown Campsite is a remote tent-only site in Otago's Macetown Historic Reserve, reached by a 4WD road with multiple Arrow River crossings.

(5)

Macetown Campsite sits at the end of a remote 4WD road in the Queenstown/Wakatipu area, roughly 15 km from Arrowtown within the Macetown Historic Reserve. Getting here is part of the adventure: the track follows the Arrow River and crosses it numerous times, so a snorkel is well worth considering before you set out.

This is a basic, non-powered site for tents, with long-drop toilets and water drawn from the stream. There are no other facilities, so come well prepared and self-sufficient. It's a popular spot to get away from it all, rewarded with good views and plenty of walks to explore around the old goldmining settlement once you've made camp.

As a historic reserve, it's a place to tread lightly — pack out all your rubbish and respect the track and surrounds so others can enjoy it too.
