Londons Ford is a 2.428ha riverside reserve in the Manawatū-Whanganui region, on the site of a former river ferry. It's a much-loved free campsite with a large, flat, open grassed area, mature trees and a backdrop of cliffs, with river access via the beach for swimming and paddling. There's plenty of room to spread out, making it equally good for a quiet getaway or a big family camp-out, and there are two decent swimming spots either side of the bridge that you can kayak, raft or float between. A small forest walk winds through the reserve, and at night you'll often spot wildlife including birds and possums. Dogs are permitted unleashed but under control. Facilities include a camping area, a clean, modern composting long-drop toilet and a pump station. Bring your own firewood. Expect patchy cell coverage and a few sandflies, but nothing major.
