Lake Tutira Campsite

Campsite in the Hawke's Bay region

(5)

Set at the southern end of freshwater Lake Tutira in the Tutira area of inland Hawke's Bay, this is a popular and well-liked lakeside campground. It's a large, grassy area with non-powered tent sites, non-flush long-drop toilets that campers report are kept clean, and a tap (untreated water, so boil before use). The lake is great for fishing, swimming, kayaking and sailing, and abundant birdlife including native ducks and swans makes it a relaxing spot. A network of walking trails leads off from the campground, ranging from quick 20-minute strolls to longer four-hour outings. Among them is the climb to Table Mountain Trig, which rewards you with views across the inland Kaweka, the Maungaharuru Range and coastal Hawke's Bay. The hill country is especially colourful in autumn. It can get busy and fill up during peak times, so plan ahead if you're visiting in summer.
